About Us
Michel Chalets is a beautiful accommodation and wedding venue located just 6km outside the township of Maleny. Karl Michel, bought the land in 1980 for his daughter Melita on the day of her 14th birthday. Originally used to spell cow and calf, the property now boasts improved pastureland with two small separate forests (planted in 1962), meandering creeks, secluded cabin accommodation and beautiful venue facilities. Building the private retreat was Melita’s husbands vision. Melita who initially doubted the idea, was sold on the concept once Dean pointed out how it was to be designed to ensure privacy.
Private Accommodation
The cabins are a minimum of 50 metres apart with a private road entry for each cabin or cottage.You cannot see from one cabin to the next, so it’s ideal for couples in search of seclusion. From Mapleton and Flaxton through to Montville and then Maleny, you will be hard pressed to find a resort offering such privacy.
Orange trees, avocados and limes have been planted for the benefit of guests. A swimming pool, giant chess board and sauna are also offered for your indulgence.
Why the Chess Board?
Michel Chalet is named in memory of Melita’s father, ‘Michel’ being her maiden name and ‘Chalet’ referring to Karl’s Swiss origins. A giant chess board stands in the grounds in honor of Karl who was fond of the game.
A Country Wedding
In 2011 after much encouragement from visiting guests, Michel Chalets focused it’s business on providing a unique wedding venue and wedding planning service.
If you are after a beautiful country wedding then look no further. Photo opportunities are unlimited as the entire 50 acres is at your disposal. The lawns are vast and well maintained. Your choice of where the ceremony takes place is limited only by your imagination. For example, the two forests lend themselves to a twilight wedding.
Melita who has managed Michel Chalets from 1998 is your host. As your wedding coordinator she is only too happy to assist in any area that you require, for your special day.Wedding packages are tailored to suit your individual requirements. We can arrange a simple ceremony, a stand up cocktail party, a casual relaxed function at the pool pavilion or a three course sit-down formal dinner.
Michel Chalets can recommend a marriage celebrant for your special day and also provide information on who to call for fairytale horse and carriage entry or perhaps a vintage car for a black and white wedding theme.
Local attractions
The historic township of Maleny is only a short 10min trip away, providing gourmet restaurants, cafes, art, crafts and shopping. The quaint township of Montville with it’s café culture and gift shops is a further 10 min away. Drive on for 30 minutes and you will find yourself at the Sunshine Coast beaches.
